Oven Beef Stew


1/4 c. oil
3 lb. Chuck roast or stew meat
3 Tbsp. Flour
1 tsp. Salt
half a tsp. Pepper
half a tsp. Thyme
1 c. beef broth
1 c. dry read wine
half a pound of sliced mushrooms
1 can small white (pearl) onions, or substitute chopped onion-2 cups
(Add any other common stew veg you care to:  potatoes, carrots, celery, chopped tomatoes, etc.  I add whole garlic cloves.  A package of frozen stew vegetables is very convenient here.

Brown beef in oil. Add remaining ingredients except mushrooms and onions. Bake 2 hours at 325 degrees. Add mushrooms and onions and bake one and one half hours longer.  Serve on noodles!
